This workshop will introduce attendees to the process of steam and hydro distillation and how plants may be distilled for their fragrant waters, called hydrosols. Attendees will be able to see a live distillation and will take home their own bottle of herbal hydrosol. Other herbal products & potted herbs will be available to purchase at the end of the workshop. Hannah will lead attendees through the process of distilling herbs with a copper still, as well as an at-home stovetop method of distilling hydrosols which doesn’t require specialized equipment. The group will come to understand how to responsibly harvest and prepare herbs for distillation, and how to use and store their homemade hydrosols for aromatherapy, skin care and more. As the group learns and observes, we’ll sample various hydrosols and share the ways in which fragrant herbs can evoke emotions, memories and physical sensations.
